About mE

Biography

I am a formally trained artist with a Fine Art Foundation (Morley College, London) and a Masters with Distinction in Fine Art & Printmaking (Middlesex University). However like the unruly landscapes in which I immerse myself, my work has broken out from the more traditional constructs and weaves together multidisciplinary and experimental practices and processes to better create new spaces of seeing and being.

My art practice is rooted in a deep love for the West Somerset Jurassic coastline, a connection that began during childhood holidays, deepened through the completion of my MA project exploring the divided landscape of Hinkley Point and culminated in me moving here permanently four years ago From London.

I have exhibited widely and sold my work internationally. I have received awards for abstract and landscape painting, and last year I was honoured to be selected for the international Wells Open Exhibition. I have run  wild pigment workshops for the Exmoor Society and my work has featured in their publication. Recently, I participated in the Words in Watchet Festival, creating an art film to accompany poetry specific to Hinkley Point and Coleridge. This year, I am excited to present my first solo exhibition, Sacred Acre, in Somerton.

My Medium

I primarily make paintings layered with, experimental prints, collaged sketches, and site specific wild pigments and found materials. I work out in the landscape and across media in a fluid and organic way, creating experimental techniques as my primary and direct response to place. I walk and drift, gathering and weaving my encounters, the elements and site material into my work through alchemical processes. My layering of medium, process and narratives echoes the dynamic processes and simultaneous stories that make up the landscape and open up a space of deep interconnection and reflection.

My Inspiration

During a transitional period of my life I became involved in what I call ‘dreadscapes’ - nuclear power stations as places of uneasy tension, flickering with power and latent violence; marshlands as landscapes of loss, dread, renewal and hope, characterised by transitions and dissolving boundaries; holloways; abandoned spaces and haunted eerie lands. As I walked and worked in these landscapes, immersing myself in an embodied experience of place as it unfolds, a mutual healing began to take place. My purpose now is to open up and re-enchant these fascinating portals through my creative processes.

I draw on Animism, Mythogeography, ancient shamanic practices, ritual and ceremony in landscape, deep mapping, meditative drawing and a channeling of all that is magic and unseen.
